Got nothing done today. Leaving for Disney on Thursday, so I will probably not get anything done for a couple weeks. Plus, I have to go back to work. Temps are higher now. It was a nice break. lol.

Spent a few hours last night cleaning up my 327 block. Father In Law is going to a swap meet today, I've got him looking for a gasket kit, I think I'll just pull the 327 apart, clean it all up, pressure wash it, hone it, polish all the internal stuff with a wire wheel, replace the bearings and rings, do a quick lap job and finish cleaning up the heads and toss the engine together. That way I can get it running cheap, and build something really serious slowly as I can.

Probably should wait on a gasket kit until you've got it apart, just in case there's a surprise inside! Wouldn't want to end up with a kit and nothing to put it in.
Also if you're going to put new rings and bearings in to freshen it up you should wait and get a complete kit with gaskets, rings, and bearings. It's the cheapest way to go, and once you've checked the old bearings and bore you'll know whether it's been bored or if the crank was turned. Beearings will have a size stamped on the back side if they're oversized for a turned crank, but bores need to be measured to see what size they are.

well, I haven't heard anything, so he must not have found a kit up there. So, I'll probably go the complete kit route then. I need to get some punches and label where the rods go. My FIL told me to punch both the rod and the cap on the side, like where the bolt goes through. I'm pretty sure I have seen it in the books on the bottom of the cap... Once I get some punches I'm going to start pulling things apart and seeing what I will need. I really don't think I'm going to go to the extent of changing freeze plugs though. My cylinders also have numbers right on the top of them in the combustion chamber, one has a 9, a few a 10, one an 11... What is that all about?

Not sure what those numbers would mean on top. I've seen a number of Chevy engines come with rods and caps numbered from the factory, so might not have to number them if they are already.

Oh, the numbers I am talking about are directly on top of the cylinder. I'll dig up my camera and get some pics tonight. Should put up a few progress pics of what the engine is coming along like anyhow without any paint on it and getting cleaned up.

How does one find an engine rebuild kit. It is a 1967 large journal 327. I haven't pulled the caps yet, nor measured the cylinders, I'm just looking for a ballpark price for gaskets, bearings, rings, and a cam, lifters, springs, pushrods and rockers. I'll keep looking, but a cursory search of both jegs and summit didn't smack me in the face with anything. I may have to get fancy with my search lingo or something.

You wont find a kit with all that in it. You can find a kit with everything you listed except the cam, lifters, pushrods, and rockers. Those will have to be purchased as pieces, or a cam kit. Is there a reason you want new pushrods and rockers? I usually resue them unless they look bad, or pushrods are bent, gauled, etc.
Here's the page for the re-ring kits around $160 for Sealed Power; jumps up to around $500 if you needed pistons too:
Search Results for 1967 Chevy 327 engine rebuild kit - SummitRacing.com
Now you just need to pick a cam and lifters.

on the money as always just want to add one little thing if i can you may want to have the rods resized by a machine shop just a little extra added insurance in my opinion. i pretty much lost an almost fresh 350n that way once i didn't build it a friend did for a blazer i bought it from him.
but then again theres a lot of folks on here who know way more then i do and you may be fine. just my 2 cents.

Try competition products. They have good deals on gaskets. I built a few engines from their pages. I would punch the caps and the caps only.
