Shoot that tranny with some brake cleaner, it will get you a good surface to paint on. Whether its roller or spray bomb.

One thing I don't have. I figured once I clean it up, I'll clean off whatever oil is on it with some. Next time I am in Wally World I will pick some up though. Probably about four cans. I'll be needing alot of it from here on out. I should be working on my engine real soon. I am still feeling like I should just throw the 327 together for now and see if it works. I am going to be getting a 350 for cheap say mid summer. Plus I have another 350 block I am going to use to do a serious build slowly as funds permit to do it right.

That 327 would be fun with a stick.

No stick. I am thinking of getting a nova or chevelle next with a stick though. I'm kind of liking the car restoration thing. It allows me to combine my need to fix things and the Internet for finding information and forums for learning. I used to have a 72 Nova, and not a week has gone by that I am not mad about selling it. I'll find another one.

If you have a NAPA in town check with them on case discounts! The NAPA's around town here have great prices on case items, and I got a case(12 cans) for $1.79 per can! I figured since I use so much for cleaning I might as well get a case.

Good call, I went through 3 cans on the trans. I'll check into it.

The trans is painted, I went with a high temp paint, aluminum color. My father in law says it should be black. I have it up on my bench for a while. I need to rebuild it anyhow and put a shift kit in it. From the looks of it the front seal was leaking. Probably should at least replace both seals. I got the 327 up on the stand right now. I'm going to kick around what to do with it for a bit. It seems to turn over fine, I really don't want to go through a full rebuild. Honestly thinking about a hone and go. There isn't much of a ridge on the top of the bore, I don't think it has many miles on it... Something to think about.

For now though, I am moving onto POR15ing my inner fenders and insides of the fenders and put them on the car just to get them off the ground. We got the welder at my house now. Hopefully the floor and stuff can get fixed and I can POR15 the inside of the car and get the doors on and move onto bodywork phase. The next major milestone will be to have all of the rust fixed. Can't wait.

I went GM blue for my tranny. I didn't know what color I was going to do the engine back then, and wanted to get the tranny painted. Wish I had just done silver or black, as I went black on the engine, and either would have been better. But nobody sees it anyway, so no big deal.

Another couple of days worth of updates here now. The transmission is painted and done, I'll need to rebuild it though at some point, it looks like the front seal may be leaking, probably the rear seal too. I need to look into a rebuild kit and a shift kit, unless they are one in the same. I've got a book I need to read on it to get a handle on just what it takes to do it.

The next project is up on the stand, the 327, not sure where to head with it as of yet though.

Spent some time POR15ing today.

Still avoiding the areas that need to be welded, also needs another coat overall.

Starting to put some undercoating in my trunk, almost passed out breathing that stuff, I'll finish it outside. lol

Got the inner fenders and inside of the fenders POR15ed, and the outside primed just with rattle can grey primer to start getting it all one color. I want to put the car together again to start the body work and I want it to look half way decent.

And, here is the welder...

I am happy to be moving towards the goal now. I'll need to start looking for the nuts and bolts and sorting them out. Everything I took off is labeled in a baggie. The rest of them are in little rubbermaid containers, I can't wait. It would be nice if there were a list of bolts and sizes someplace so I could just go and buy new, without spending $200 on a preassembled kit.

Check this site out. It's helped me many times. If you have a part number for the hardware you need go to the glossary. Find the part number your looking for and it will send you to the page number from one of the other pdf files. Find the part number on the page and you will have a clear pic and usually a description or size info.

They also break down their master kits into sub kits. Just select 79 under the body drop down box and check it out.
