I never knew that I could get a part of the front fender, that is awesome, I'll have to look for some. Thanks for the compliments, still a long way to go though, but each day of work is another day closer. I've got some more toys coming, this Saturday I am going to meet up with a couple of people off of NastyZ28 and get a fuel tank, a dust shield, a wire mold cover for under the sill plate and the molding for the headliner that isn't bent like one of mine.

 

Took a roadtrip and met up with Ricardo1979 and olstyle today. Super nice fellow NasyZ28 members, who happened to have a NastyZ28 sticker, I need to find out how to get one of those.

I picked up some more toys from Ricardo, got me a gas tank, needs a bit of TLC, but the price was right.



Asked for a brake dust shield, and got a New in the box one.



Asked for a drivers side wire molding for under the sill plate and got both of them, I may end up sandblasting them and getting them smooth and repainting them, but at least I least I have them now.



I also got a front headliner trim piece that isn't bent like the one I have.

Oh, almost forgot, also picked up some new fuel, this stuff is pretty good.

 

Spent a bit of time out in the garage tonight. I managed to get the fuel tank sandblasted and painted with etching primer. I am going to paint it up in hammered silver tomorrow. Not even 1 pic of what I did, the camera was dead! I need to leave it in the garage, bringing it in the house only encourages people to use it.

Hopefully tomorrow I can get my core support and fuel tank all done, I still need to push the car outside and blast my other inner fender and finish the fender with holes in it.

On another note, I am very likely going to be picking up an 81 Z28 for a parts car. Once I am finished I would like to part it out to fund my engine build. Seems like a good plan anyhow.

 

Hammered paint looks great on tanks and seems very durable. I used the Rustoleum Hammered Black and it came out real nice. The black is actually more of a real dark gray. Get those batteries replaced and post up man. LOL

 

Pics tomorrow. It has just occurred to me that if I get the z28, I should have all of the stabilizer bars and stuff to transfer over. I'm going to be checking it out this weekend. It supposedly has a 4.10 posi in it too. That will be awesome!

 

Ok, so I got batteries in the camera today, so I am playing catch up with photos. I had previously finished painting the core support and carried it over to the side, probably just to get all dirty from sandblasting, but hopefully it will wipe off when I go to put it on. You will notice the Lawn Mower buried back there too... I'll be needing that soon...



Here is a lovely finished Crossmember, it will probably get all scratched up putting the trans in.



I went ahead and painted the bottom of the tank before I looked inside of it, I couldn't help it, lol.



So, I flipped the tank over and looked inside, and this is what I saw, looks good to me, there was some carmelized fuel in there too though, I guess you can never be too sure:



Here is the sending unit, everything looks good on it, I'm going with it.



And for whatever reason I cannot even begin to fathom, I figured I would flip the tank over, and just put a nipple in the air hose, and let the air blow whatever crap was in the tank, out. Needless to say, inserting that air hose into the nozzle caused the end to shoot off, into the tank... I even had thought that it could happen, but went forth anyhow...
I stood like an idiot with the tank over my head rocking it back and forth and shaking it around trying to get the nipple to fall out of the sending unit hole. I saw it skip right over the hole at least 3 times. Eventually I got smarter, and tireder, and went and got my headlamp and slowly moved the nipple into position where I could see it. AND THEN, a light came from heaven and I remembered I had one of those spring grabber things.



In order to get some flash, I decided to paint my fuel lines black.





And finally, today I got my new patch panels, thanks pattgiz



I just felt like tinkering out there today, no sandblasting, maybe tomorrow. I am looking forward to the day when all I have left to do is tinker with it. It can't get done fast enough. Really once the welding is done, it will be on to body work, paint and reassembly.

 

Nice starting point. I have seen way worse turned into a nice car.

 

Parts look great and the tank actually does look pretty clean inside! A good fuel filter should catch any carmelized gas that's in the tank when you get her running again. The fuel lines will also have carmelized fuel in them. When I got mine back on the road after 11 yrs. I plugged up the filter several times. I finally opened up one of the plugged filters and it had pieces of dried gas that looked like clear tubing inside it! Exact same size as the inside of my fuel lines!

 

Picked up another car. Actually split the cost with my father in law. I found it, and it has a 4.10 posi rear end under it. he has been kicking himself for giving the car away ever since. So we split it, I am going to do a rear end swap, and get the front sway bar, he is going to take the rest of the car. The body panels are from the looks of it, solid, but the tail panel and the floors are typical, along with the frame rails. He is contemplating tubbing it though, he knows how to do all that stuff, so this is nothing to him. I am just glad I found a decent rear end out of it all. I just have to swap it before he tries to talk me out of it. lol

 

man i wish i could find some of those wire cover panels for cheap mine are like swiss cheese everyone i find is 200 a set
