78' RS Build in MA - "The Moss-maro"
Ok got the dash back in . . . had a few screws left over but it seems to be solid and in there so im not going to sweat it (pics to follow) Issues came when i went to put the gauges back in. Found a few things. One there is only one useable mount for the gauges (not the tabs on the gauges, the part is screws into in the dash pad) Two, there are NO useable points to screw the bezel into >=( I plugged stuff in to test it and see where i was at. The gauge cluster im having issues with in that I cant seem to find one plug i need on the right side. I believe it just powers the clock so im not too stressed. As far as i can tell right now the only thing that works on the cluster is the volt meter. I have no clue whats wrong. I had the tach working on and off but its off again right now. The gas gauge, forget it. It just pegs out way past full and stays there untill you turn the car off. The wipers work, the turn signals seem to work, the headlights work. I have no horn bc i have no complete steering wheel yet. And noticed nothing works on the HVAC system. So with all that said . . . . any suggestions
With all those issues I'd be checking grounds. One bad ground can easily create multiple bad gauges. The fuel gauge being pegged kinda makes me lean towards a ground issue too.
where would i be checking grounds ? Does it all work off of a central ground or are there individual grounds ? I know when I installed the gas tank i cleaned and reinstalled the tank ground but who knows maybe i didnt get it tight enough . . .
also does anyone happen to have access to the back of there gauges and bezel right now ? If you could post a picture it would be a huge help. thanks !

Should be a common ground that's on the harness. Start by making sure you've got it there. If it's got a good ground to the connector, then check the cluster connector to see if the contact or printed circuit is damaged.
You should be able to use an ohm meter to check continuity betweeen the harness connector and battery neg.

Yo Wareham I would have helped you as I grew up in Canton, and lived until 10 yrs ago in Middleboro. I won't be back there until X-mas time. I'm in Jersey now. I'll get you pics of my dash tomorrow when I get out to my car again.
My car is a 76 w/AC. I forgot I modified my dash panel. I removed the factory guages and instaled aftermarket ones. You will see that I have removed screws fro the printed circuit. I didn't cut anything though.
Ignore the red wires hanging as they are fom the aftermarket lights. Also ignore the spring looking thing as that is my water temp.

hmmm ya everything looks right . . . anyone got one pulled out but still hooked up to the wires ? Im still having trouble here
Looks like Ill be getting new doors come spring. Theres nothing left of the bottoms of mine. went to change door seals only to find that 3/4 of the bottom was just hanging

On a good note got the new Grant steering wheel set no prob. No way in hell im getting the horn to work though. Can someone explain to me how there is only one lead off the steering column but the horn button needs two wires ? Im thinking ill just run a new line for a button somewhere on the dash.
Still trying to figure out how im going to screw in the cluster and bezel once i get things working as well . . . it never ends !
