Is it hard to replace the dipstick from my tranny (th400), i cracked it at the base (im sure) when i tightened the tranny to the block.

The tube end has an o-ring and slides into the transmission housing. It might be a snug fit, so you may have to give it a good wiggle and pull.

If it is the same as a th350 dipstick, then it is bolted to the block on one bolt too I think, and like Camaro 69 said, it just slips in an O-Ring or rubber grommet.

Well not much work today but i did get something done, i had to remove that transmission dipstick, i tugged on it and it snapped off in the tranny, so i had to take the pan off to pull it through the bottom with a pair of vise grips (PITA with slippery hands lol), i figured since i have the pan off i might as well clean it up before i put it back on (full of tranny fluid from the leak).

heres a couple pics

Anyone know off hand how many litres a TH400 takes?

My 400 was a pain in the butt to be honest. My dipstick leaks at the base thanks to that craptastic little o-ring. Glad I've gone to a six speed.

what the hell are you talking about? That's space-age technology developed exclusively for GM by NASA scientists. It took over 5 years and numerous lives to develop that piece of hardware.
