Saw the painter yesterday afternoon. He saw me pulled over in the Austin and stopped to tell me the Camaro would be done today. At least he was pretty sure it would be. I have stopped trusting his promises of schedules, so we'll see!

Well no call this afternoon, so I guess he hasn't really let me down, since that's what I expected.

 

There is a reason they call it paint jail. I think as long as its there and your not having to rent a car for transportation, your fine. Sucks to get your hopes up though I'm sure. Good luck.

 

My biggest concern with it being at a body shop is the longer it's there, the more cleaning it will need when it gets home! Last time took me two weeks of daily cleaning to get back to normal. I really stressed to him I didn't want it coming home dirty this time, and put butcher paper on the floor, and sheets on the seats, but I can't protect the engine and undercarriage. After all the new parts and paint underneath I hate to think about cleaning underneath!

Called the shop yesterday, and still not done. Supposedly today, but I'm still not holding my breath!

 

So the Camaro came home today, and as expected it's a mess. They took the sheet off the front seat, and tossed the butcher paper that was on the driver's floor. Floors are a mess, and it appeared they rubbed the roof out and had the doors open, as there's rubbing compound running down the inner door panels. Overspray from primer on the windshield and side windows that I had them clean off before I left. Some overspray of primer on the body that appeared to be from some other car nearby that settled on the body and stuck. They had to buff it off when I got there.
The door jams, trunk jams, and under the hood are all full of dust and rubbing compound. Just a total lack of concern for how clean it was going in there. I got so ticked I just said forget it. I can clean it better than they would, even if I gave them a chance to try.
I'll probably be two weeks cleaning to get it back where it was when it went there. Only good thing I can say is the body and paint work is great.

 

Other than those few minor nuisances, you're happy about the outcome?

 

Not really. After all that was done the guy charged me more than he quoted, and got amnesia when I reminded him what he said previously. I really liked him the first go around when he painted it, but I'll never go back now. The guy who painted the Austin does as good or better work, and is much better at protecting the cars, and doing what he said he'd do. If I had known what was gonna happen all around, I'd have had him fix it instead. Live and learn.
