Oh, and those pneumatic rods can be had from like Amazon.com for like $25 each. I've considered it for my car. I've actually got some from some ATM machine rehabs. I'm kicking it around for the trunk and the hood. I'll cross that bridge when I get to it though.

Thanks guys. I've tried Lowes and H-D in the past but they had nothing close on the shelves. I'll see if they can order me a set with that part number. I really don't want to use a prop rod or pneumatic rods if I can help it.

Let me know. I'll be looking for a set too. Can't wait to try and get the originals off of my hinges... I gave it a half hearted effort once and it doesn't look easy. The price looks good though. lol.

Getting them off is easy! Getting the new ones on is the tough part! You can trap the springs with an open end wrench to hold them open, then close the hood and they fall off. But unless you're putting the same ones back on it's tough to get new ones stretched out to install when the hinges are open!

My hood is fiberglass, and my hinges are off. I'm sure that a couple of bars would work though.

Actually you trap them when the hood is down as far as you can close it while still getting at the springs. Then as you raise the hood the tension is transferred to the wrenches and the springs will fall right off. I've become a spring changing pro but not by choice, LOL.

Well I tried the Home Depot 170425 springs today and they are no stronger than the Harwoods and harder to get on because they are shorter. So I'm still searching for the right ones. When I return them tomorrow I'm going to take a Harwood spring with me and see if I can find a spring that will fit inside it. Maybe two springs per side will hold it.

Man, I wish I could forget about these stupid things. So Vall did you say you use a prop rod on yours? If I can't find a suitable spring or combo of springs I think I'll go that route.
