Yeah, spray it down good with brake cleaner and lube it with a good grease when you're done rebuilding it. Are you going to have nuts welded on the ends for the stop bolts?

After over 4 months in the garage without running I took the Camaro out today. Took awhile to get gas to the carb with the mechanical fuel pump, but she fired right off after cranking enough to get fuel. Boy it was nice to hear her breathe again. Always puts a smile on my face when I feel the Camaro respond to my foot on the throttle!
On a somewhat sad note, I sold my old Toyota truck today. Planned to sell it when I got the new old burb, but it was still weird selling a truck I'd owned for 23 years! It sure served me well over those years!
I guess that's why I took the Camaro out for a spin; to remind me I still had something I'd owned much longer!

Well there are holes on the shifter already. I was going to drill them out and thread them for a 3/8ths bolt and just use a jam nut. As far as grease should I use something heavy like bearing grease or something more like a lithium based?

I'd use the lithium grease, so it's not stiff when it's cool out.

I finally started doing a few odds and ends things on the 80 i bought a few weeks back.Put new upgraded H4 headlights in and installed my new billet grilles from fbody wharehouse.I bought an a/c delete box,but it's too cold outside to install it,and the 81 is still taking up the garage until i can finish stripping it so i can get it hauled away. Here's a couple pics. The one of the headlights on,the drivers side is the new light, passenger side is a standard bulb,so i could see a side by side difference. It's a little hard to tell in the pic,but the new one is alot brighter with a more even beam pattern.

It's amazing how much of a difference the little things like a grille can drastically change the look of a vehicle.I had seen these on ebay several times, but never really paid too much attention to them, then a friend put a set on his car,and i was sold haha.

Some of that stuff looks great on Fleabay, but I'm usually hesitant to buy until I see it for real. Nice when a friend takes the leap first, so you can see it before you buy!

Finished cleaning up the shifter last night. That thing was packed full of CRAP and grease. Drilled two holes in the mount and the rubber insulators for the handle today. Thing should bolt up nice and solid now. After looking at how thin the metal in the case was I decided to weld nuts on for shift stops like Vall had asked if I was going to do instead of just threading the holes. Just have to paint her up and grease it real good then put it in with the new bushings. It's going to make a huge difference in the way the car shifts.
