Default Updraft Carb Hood?????

This has been driving me nuts all night. Tonight as I was driving along, I passed a pretty mean looking white '69 drop top. Sounded real nice to say the least. However, what absolutely grabbed my attention was what I thought I may have seen. Let me preface this by saying the car had a nice patina on the white paint all the way around. I'm familiar with this particular patina look as I have a 1985 460 series grey marketMB 280 G-Wagen, one of about 400 in the U.S.. Well the thing that shocked me was, the Camaro looked like it had a hood set up for 8 updraft carbs, maybe it was less, but regardless. This can't be factory can it? Updraft carbs, let alone a factory looking hood set up for it? It was an older gentleman crusing with his wife. If anyone can tell me if I'm hallucinating, I'd appreciate it.

I haven't seen an updraft carburator made for cars since around 1950, and they were used on sraight engines. Are you sure they were updrafts, as they are kinda tough to put on a V8 engine.

You know, I thought so too, except I have a picture in my mind of the old ferrari 250 with the twelve trumpets coming up through the top of the hood...
