tire sticking out too far!

My buddy bought two M21 Muncies and all the disassembled guts that came out of them for $200. He's taking them to a local tranny shop and having them both built up, then reselling one of them.

has anybody with a 5" BS, had any issues with rubbing against the leaf spring perches or mounts?
and do you think I should get the 15x10 cragars with the 6" bs from JEGS for $170/wheel and use a spacer or spend a little extra and get the custom backspacing cragar 15x10s on summit for $190/wheel?

i don't know how you are getting by with only a 3.75" bs even if there custom. lol

Well this isn't the best angle or picture, but you can possibly see how close my shock mount is to the tire with under 4" of backspacing. I can just get my fingers between the lower shock bracket and the rim. Maybe 1/2-5/8" clearance.

well i don't think i could get 5.5" of bs to clear my shock but 5" should work. The main thing im worried about is clearing the shock mount on the driver side.
i took some pics of the driver and passenger side to help show you guys the clearance i have to work with:
driver side:
passenger side:
EDIT:but its probably better to get a little more BS than less since you can always add spacers if its too much but if its not enough then your screwed since the tires will stick out and your only option is too get new wheels

I know the guys who go to larger rim diameter have no clearance issues as the rims of the 16" or larger are big enough diameter to miss the shock completely. I've considered flipping my shock mounts to the inside and welding them back on, but what I have clears so I'll just leave them alone for now.

You can easily check the backspace clearance by bolting a straight piece of wood across the brake drum, and measure out half the diameter of your new wheels. Then hold a short stick out at the appropriate distance where the largest part of your rim is, and tape it in place pointing towards the car.
Now just turn the drum and see where it hits. If it does move it back, and if it doesn't move in in until it touches. Then just measure the length and you have your backspacing. That's how I got my original measurement to have the rear wheels built.

Ok well i'm not going to get the wheels with 6" bs and use a spacer. im going to get the custom backspacing cragar ss wheels. After alot of reading and measuring, I think i'm going to go with 5" bs. i don't think i could clear 5.25" bs on both sides but i measured and my rear doesn't sit perfectly centered. It sticks out an extra 1/4" on the passenger side(like alot of 2nd gens are supposed to do). Should I get one with a 5.25" bs to compensate for the off center rear?

No! Get the same on both sides. Make sure it clears on the side that's got the least clearance, then get them both that size. Nobody will ever see 1/4" difference, and if you ever sold the wheels nobody else would want two different BS wheels.
Be very sure before you order that not only will the wheels clear, but tires wont rub too!
