84 Z28 Choke Sticking
Ihave just aquired my 3rd camaro , 1st of this generation (1984)
and when I first start it up and the choke kicks on (electric i assume)
the car runs fine but then I cant get the choke to kick off and idle
normally after it warms up . I have checked all the wires and they
appear normal. has this happen to any of you and if so do you know
what the cause and soultion is.
thanks Lee

RE: 84 Z28 Choke Sticking
Ok , soIstarted the car on sat and the choke is on and the car runs at a high idle for about
ten minutes so I tap the throttle a few times and the choke kicks off and the car idles normally I
also notice that the car has started to heat up past normal (about 230 degrees ) and the
fan has not kicked on so I turn the heater control to ac postion and the fan turns on and
the car cools down to 180 degrees but as soon as I turn the switch from ac to off
the fan turns off and the car slowly starts to heat back up .Onsunday after the car has sat all
night I started it up to see if the choke would kick off after it warmed up but for some
reason I it would not kick off for about thirty minutes running at high idle. any body have any
ideas if these two are related to each other or are they two seperate problems ??

seperate problems, and the carb may just need cleaned. It is a mechanical device, to much gunk it it and it won't work right. You need to see if you can manually make it kick down with your hand which is what Dave asked to see if it is sticking. On the fan just sounds like the temp switch is bad.

RE: 84 Z28 Choke Sticking
I have tried to move the throttle linkage by hand to see if it was
messed up but it moves freely and I also srayed the outside of the carb with carb cleaner and have check all the connections and every thing
appears to be normal, I am wondering if the electric choke mechinisem
on the passenger side of the carb is faulty ?

Check the connection to it. I was refering to actually pushing on the choke blade to see if it is sticking and holding it open or if there is alot of resistance that it's the choke mechanism holding it open. If it will open if you tap it then would say it's sticking. If you tap it and the choke mechanism keeps it closed than look at replacing the choke.
