Default tire recommendations for my '80 Camaro

Hi Folks,

Can you recommend tires for my '80 Camaro? I currently have Dunlop SP 40s on there, size P205/75R14. The engine is a V6, 229, 3.8.

I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to buying tires. The Dunlops seemed to work fine, but I've scuffed one of them up pretty badly and figure I should just replace the whole set. I want to get something that handles well in all weather. Am I limited to the 205 size? I like the looks of some BF Goodrichs, but they may be too large.

Thanks,
Mike

My 79 has factory 14 inch wheels. I have P215/70/14. They work great, no problems at all. I would buy them again if I needed new tires for these wheels.

I run a 275/60-15 on the rear and a 235/60-15 on the front and have not had any rubbing issues,of course everything is new so their is no worn out sagging problems

first off i work at discount tire and i also use to have the same tire size 205 75 14. their really isnt much of a choice due to not much takes that size but older cars i would recommend that you upgrade your wheel size so you have a better choice in different andbetter quality tires

Man, some one asks about tires and they get answer right away, I'm looking for advice on the best way to spend $10,000.00 on restoring a 80 rally sport and I get nothing. Sorry, by the way I would go with STix80's recommendation. He is right abouit the older car smaller tire issue

A lot of vendors still make older tire sizes and certain companies specialize in them. People like us don't mind waiting a day or two for the quality of Mickey Thompson, Hoosier, Coker, etc. DoT street tires. Especially when we can get them cheaper or a similar price from certain dealers than we can from a chain.

Almost the same setup as me but with 255 on the rear.

If you go big in the rear make sure you are 100% sure of the backspacing you will need to get your clearances. I've never seen a place that will let you return tires once they've been mounted.
