Spring for fuel filter

Default Spring for fuel filter

Does anyone know where to get a replacement spring for the fuel filter?
I can't find it anywhere online and if they have it in their catalog and you want to order it they say discontinued or out of stock.

I'm guessing you have a carb on this car, if so, its probably a Q jet, try checking out Edelbrock's catalog. or Year One, or Classic Industries, probably have to buy a carb rebuild kit, should be included. Good luck.

Go to a hardware store that carries small spring kits or individual springs. Any lightweight spring that's about 3/8" diameter, and cut to about 1/2" long will work fine to hold that sintered bronze filter.
I always toss those filters away, and put a quality inline ahead of the carb. Those things are junk.

What 71 said about the spring, all you need is tension to keep the filter against the front fitting (spring goes in before the filter). Oh, and unless someone swapped an older carb onto your engine, yours with the long inlet horn takes a long style paper filament filter, not the shorty bronze one. Thanks for the reply...it's a dualjet and I already have the filter...non of the named stores has the spring anymore.

Found a few springs that could fit but also wondered about the right length so it will sit right! Thanks 1971BB427 for the hint regarding size.

I found the spring in a rochester online store but need to buy more there. I will go with the inline I have now until I rebuild the carb during the summer.

I would have just put a cheap plastic filter on it.

When You rebuild the Qjet make sure you Epoxy the secondary Metering wells... if they leak you will never get the carb to tune right and it will always run rich.

He has a Dualjet (2 barrel).
If you're going to install an inline filter, then maybe keep it that way and forget about the in-carb filter altogether. I never cared for them anyway, for their small size/filtering capacity. Also, in my opinion, if you value your car I wouldn't use one of those cheap plastic inline filters. Use a steel one, it's safer since it won't leak from getting brittle and cracking, or melting if too close to an extreme heat source.

True, I haven't had an issue. I was just trying to steer him away from the ever so shiny glass and chrome ones that are certain to leak at some point. My Camaro has the old school Fram canister and a steel mess prefilter for what its worth.
