Default fuel pump? bad gas? fuel filter?

ok my 2000 chevy camaro v6 3.8ltr wouldn't start last night, it wanted to run but bogged down i tried several times, thinking it was my fuel pump i sprayed starter fluid in the carb it started right up and ran fine but then died... so i figured it was my fuel pump... i woke up this morning and my car started up but seemed like it was trying to die but stayed running after starting it a few times it ran fine but now i'm scared to drive it thinking that my car will shut off on me on the road. a new fuel pump is no less than 375 bucks and i can't find anything cheaper. only have so much strapped for cash, any ideas on what the problem is or a way to fix the problem without spending so much money?

Without running any tests any idea is as good or as bad as another. Is the check engine lamp lit? If it is, get it scanned, many of the large parts stores will do a free scan. Borrow a fuel pressure gage and check the fuel pressure, you don't want to change out expensive parts that are not broken.

If you do end up replacing the fuel pump, try replacing the fuel filter first. If it is full of crap, it will limit fuel flow and can cause problems as you have described.

Agreed, if possible, always do the cheap and easy thing first.
