Default rear air shocks

Finally taken the car out of storage after 15 years. Fitted new rear springs as the old ones broken.
I have air shocks fitted on the rear of a 1979 berlinetta air pressure was zero, Pumped up to 50psi.
What air pressure is recommended?
Ride seems very hard.

I think I used to run 25-30 but it's been decades since I had air shocks.
Air shocks do ride a bit stiff especially compared to something more modern.

Do you need them for big tire clearance? If not look into something gas charged for a better ride and handling

Hi the tyres are normal size not hitting anything
what would you recommend to replace the airshocks?
At my age i want a nice comfortable ride (lots of pot holes in my city) ((

Just a FYI there was no recommend pressure only a max pressure. As a general rule a set of air shocks would fit many makes and models. Pressure was "as needed" for ride height or ride quality. Like you said start low work you way up. Air should where put on for one of 2 reasons. 1.) So a much wider tire could be ran. 2.) Car had a case of sagging springs.

My personal opinion I really liked the feel of the KYB gas charged shocks. If you have a sway bar the car will still handle decent. You can find better performance shocks but I think you give up too much ride quality to small gains. I had a 74 with air shocks, It worked and looked ok but I want rear disks. Back in the day I bought an entire rear and spring setup from a wrecked low miles 79 Z28. It came with the KYB shocks, so I swapped everything. Best $275 spent on that 74. I added the matching shocks in the front and it felt like a different car.

Yes I agree with Gorn,KYB is a good choice at a reasonable cost and will ride better than the old air shocks.

will look at price of KYB shocks. I dont do very many miles per year maybe 3000 so guess i can live with air shocks for awhile plus UK is in lockdown cant drive any where (
