Default Jumpy Speedometer

I have two cables that control my speedometer, one that runs from the tranny to the cruise module (or whatever the name is for it) and the other, which runs from the cruise module to the speedo head. I recently replaced the cable that runs from the tranny to the cruise module, and last week pulled the cable itself out of the speedo and lubed it up and put it back in, and the speedo head is new to. Any suggestions, maybe the teeth on the little gear inside the tranny is worn out? Or could it have somethin to do with the cruise module.

What did you lube the cable with, oil? Bad idea. Oil gets gummy and makes the cable stick. If you used oil, pull the cable back out, clean it up well with brake cleaner, and use a graphite based speedo cable lube. If you can get to it, it might not be a bad idea to flush the inside of the cable housing, and blow it dry with an air compressor.

Good, that narrows it down to being anything from bluebird poop to jello!
Do you still have the container of "pretty slippery blue" stuff? What is it called?

When you pulled the cables to lube them, did you lay them out flat and check for straigtness? Even a small bend can cause the jumpy speedo you mentioned. If they don't lay out perfectly flat, then replace them.

Graphite based lube made specifically for speedo cables. Although if it was a lube issue causing the bounce, what you used should have taken care of it for now. Just don't gob it on, lube the cable and wipe it down with a rag. The thing about using regular oils or grease is they can cake up or get gummy over time.
Did you do both cables and inspect them closely to make sure there aren't any frayed areas with a wire hanging, or any kinks as already mentioned by 71BB? If your cables are fine, you might want to take a look at your speedo gear to see if the teeth are hacked up at all.
