Default hood springs

Was wondering if anybody knew if you can take springs of hood hinges. This model seems to have issues with bending hood when trying to shut.If you remove springs will you have any issues closing hood and will hood still pop up when you go to open it.Just trying to find fix till I can afford a fiberglass hood.If everything else works with springs off have no problem making prop for hood.Any info would be appreciated thanks

Yes you can, and the hood should still release without them. You could also go to the hardware store and get some lighter weight springs. They won't hold the hood up, but will assist in lifting. I've done a glass hood on a previous 69, and found some lighter springs at the store that were the same length, and they held the hood up. To get the old springs off, take a piece of thin rope or twine (nylon is better) and hook it around the front loop of the spring. It would also help if you tied the rope into a loop. Then get a good hold of the rope, even wrap it around your hand a couple of times, and pull it towards you and over/down until the spring unhooks.
