Edelbrock carb flooding

Edelbrock carb flooding
Hello,
So I swapped the intake and carb on the 305 in my 79 camaro. I put on a 600 edelbrock with an electric choke. When I went to start the engine I primed the carb by holding the ignition key for 5 seconds or so. The car fired to life and then died within seconds. Now whenever I try to start the car It floods after holding the key and fuel comes out the top. I noticed that when I hit the throttle no fuel sprays from the jets. What should I check first? I was going to take the top off the carb and check the float levels. Any advice on this? Could I not have positioned my distributor properly? any advice would be appreciated....thanks

RE: Edelbrock carb flooding
SoI tapped the carb with a hammer to make sure that the floats weren't stuck and then tried to start it again. It fired right up and seemed to run pretty good. I noticed some fuel leaking from the in line fuel filter, so I took it apart and put some thread sealer on the threads. I started it back up and after running for 5 minutes or so the idle started to sputter and then it died. Then it wouldn't start back up...not quite sure what this means...

by saying you turned teh key to prime the carb im guessing you have an electric fuel pump. but what might be happening, you may have a loose fuel line and the pump is sucking to much air. check all the lines. also make sure you have the jets adjusted properly. good luck man

RE: Edelbrock carb flooding
Maybe priming wasnt the best choice of words...i have a mechanical fuel pump...i just meant i engaged the starter for a few seconds and held it to get some gas flowin in the carb. But then too much gas started comin...I dont know....we'll see...I was just excited I had it runnin good at some point. I guess I cant be too far off then!!
By the way im pretty sure that my car iseither the same color as yoursor is very close!Mine just has white stripes downthe middle. Your car looks really good!!

thanks man. i think if you open the butterfly valve with a screw driver let the gas evaporate out of there for a little while. open the jets up a little more. than pump the gas twice than start it you will be in good shape.
also i just wish i can get my tranny in so i can take a pic of it on the ground. i was planing on puttin white stripes on mine!!! put some pics up of your car
