Another step closer!
That was a really neat idea. I like the idea of making or refurbishing as much of the stuff on my cars or bikes as opposed to buying it. It's cheaper sure, but half the time the stuff you buy now is cheaply made anyway. Plus, I've done things the hard way my whole life. Why stop now?
Got bored with the nasty weather, so decided to go back and redo the console filler panel I built previously. I didn't need all the height that the round hump gave, so I tore it out and built a flat raised insert to replace it. Started out by making a template out of cardboard and installing it first.

Once I had the cardboard template in I made adjustments and taped on extra pieces where I needed them to get it right. After that I removed it and laid it out flat on my donor aluminum sheet. Traced the metal and cut it with my tin snips. Then I bent it to match the pattern in my wood vise, and drilled the mounting holes. Covered it with self adhesive black vinyl and checked the fit. I cut down the left filler piece from the first design and recovered it as it was worth saving.

After checking the fit and fine tuning it I reinstalled the nuts on the back, and put it back in the car to final test the travel and clearances. All worked well, so screwed it back in place and was done!

Thanks Rosky69! I added those little courtesy lights on either side of the console this weekend too! When I removed the rollcage to install the headliner I figured out I couldn't put the domelight back in. The old sunroof had a dome light, and I saved the stock one, but it ended up right above the main loop of the rollcage! Had to wire in the little courtesy lights to get a little light on the floors at night for entry.
Nice! Interior lighting was always bad until about the last few years. That's something I'll make sure I address when I start rewiring my interior. Might as well remember to do it before its all together...however long that is.
Got it, thanks!
We've got one of the biggest car swap meets in the country this weekend at the Portland Expo Center, so I'm going to try and find one there first!
