Default 2bl to 4bl swap, worth it?

Now that she is back from paint I want to clean up under the hood. It look like it will be this winter before i can afford to upgrade from my stock 305. In the meantime i want to eliminate the emission canister and possibly swap out the intake/carb. Can a 305 handel a 4bl carb. I would go small, just wanting an improvement.

If you're going to make it breathe in better (intake), you'll want to make it exhale better too (exhaust). Yes it will make a noticeable difference. For a 305, a 600 cfm carb should be more than plenty.

Yes the 305 can handle a 4 barrel just fine.My 81 had an all stock 305 that came from the factory with a 4 barrel quadrajet.

i got a 305 with a edelbrock performer manifold and a Holley 1850 600CFM vac secondary carb with set of long tube headers. is it a 305 yes will it be better definitely but i cant tell you how weak it was before cause i never owned it with stock 2bbl but if you go that route its worth it. also the intake will swap over to a 350 later on and if you get it built you can use any carb yeah want. those intakes are like 50$ on craigslist if that i got 2 of them. also those holley 1850s you can craigslist too. get cheap rebuild kit 40$ and get it done.
