Default 67 RS hideaway headlights

Been helping a friend with his lights. Can't figure out what the diode wire does. Lights will come on and doors open when you pull the headlight switch on. Push it off, lights go out and doors stay open. Have print shows diode wire going to the accessory post on ignition switch. Any info will be appreciated. This car was disassembled. It is the original wiring harness. All new relays, motors/ Been working on this for 2 weeks now. Thanks, jt69.

try here. http://www.gvtc.com/~rlaa/ look in 1967-69 rs console gauge & headlight wiring diagrams. the diode only lets voltage travel one way, make sure you have the arrow in the right direction.

Do you really have to fixed the wiring for the headlights? Is it necessary to have the original wiring in the restoration?

Please check the anode and cathode connections...they might be interchanged.

My left head light door opens and then will not close unless I lift the door off the limit switch on the core support. I changed the limit switch and same thing. I have voltage at top and bottom of switch. checked ground on switch and good. I took the switch loose and left it hooked up and now the door operates normal. Whats going on? Any help would be great.

When I was struggling with mine, I didn't realize that they have to ground back through the headlight bulbs, be sure that you don't have a burned out bulb
