hideaway lights
the 68 camaro rs/ss (clone..i guess) that i'm taking delivery of next week apparently dosent have "working" hideaway headlights(lights work...hideaways dont)....question is..do i fix the vaccum setup thats in it now or switch to an electric setup?...and whats involved with repairing the vaccum stuff?......
give me some slack...im a newbie to this stuff...

It depends on what's wrong causing them not to work. Are all the components installed but just not working, or did they shortcut some stuff during the restore? I've been into the C3 vettes for a number of years, so I'm used to chasing vacuum/headlight issues. It could have a bad headlight switch (runs vacuum through it), the actuators at the headlights could be bad, bad or missing rubber seals, a bad/missing reservoir tank, split or loose fitting vacuum hoses. I guess you'll be "surprised" once you get the car and start tracing it out.

your right...there may be nothing there at all(thats kinda what i think).....if thats the case ,would you go vaccum or electric?
or convert to standard grill/headlights?

Mine do not work either. Have most of the original parts in a box but I never drive the car at night so I have never bothered to mess with it. If none of your components are installed at all, then you definitely have the choice to install either style. I have heard the electric style has a lot less components to go bad. It eliminates the vacuum lines, seals, actuator, reservior, etc, etc. The electric seems a bit more simple, but that is what I have heard. I myself have never tried to put either one together. If you do have the vacuum style components in the car, the first thing I would check would be those rubber hoses for any splits. Especially near the connections. The smallest split and leak will make them not work. Next I would check the reservior for leaks as well. Then make your way towards the electronics. There is a lot involved with these moving headlight covers. It defintely was not GM's best engineering point when they put these together. Just ask those poor Corvette owners that have them too! Good luck to you though. The car looks good!
