ok, i have found a 68 that has had all the body work done and was repainted to factory colors, white stripes, and has #s matching 350/350. the interior is original and in very decent shape. the guy is asking 8500 for it, is it worth it? or would i be paying too much? its been sitting in a shop for several years(unknown to me exact #) but from what i can tell it just needs a battery and other misc tune up stuff(i.e. brakes, plugs, wires, cap rotor, oil change, etc) but otherwise i can drive it home after airing up the tires. deal or no deal?

 

I have seen some sure nuff rust bucket 68 and 69's go for that kinda money minus engine and tranny, a friend just bought one in texas recently that sounds about like the shape your talking but it had a couple fender panels needed and a lot of interior work needed and paid that price for it, thats why they're called rich boy toys by most. good luck and enjoy it if you decide to get it....

 

by interior work, all ill have to do is have the driver seat redone, and its only a small tear at what looks like a stitch seam on the left side of the blue seat, something really small, other than that its just gotta have trim pieces put on, but im not too worried about that at the moment, just trying to see if it was a good deal, theres a place in my town that has restored muscle cars, and he has a couple 68s, but he wants about 40,000 for them apiece... and theyre not numbers matching..

 

if you like it buy it, sounds like a decent price to me...but your looking at it face to face...

 

yea lol its grotto blue, blue interior, and originally had a white vinyl top on the coupe body, but i think its a decent price, since ive seen some on ebay in worse shape completely disassembled go for twice that... so hopefully my bank gives me the loan for it haha

 

Really, a SS camaro for $8500 and your asking if you should buy it??? 2 years ago a rusted shell of a SS would bring $7500

Something is wrong with your matching numbers. There was only one 350 offered in 68 the L48 and it was the base engine for the SS package. All SS automatics where Th400. The TH350 was not offered in any Camaro in 68. 69 was the first year.

 

I don't see where he said it was an SS or what tranny was in it, 350 cubes with 350 hp is the way I read it, I'm old , may have missed it tho...

 

Number matching 350 means it would has to be a SS, I took 350/350 to mean the combination of a 350 engine and a 350 tranny

 

i read that gm put the t350 trannys in a certain number of fleet cars in 68, the owner says its a t350 and the numbers match, but iono... from wat i read the numbers on the trans would match the date the camaro was built, not the engine number or something... it was in the sticky for vin decoding and stuff in this forum...

 

the t350 trans was put in test vehicles with a 327... from wat its saying here: http://www.camaros.org/trans.shtml ...maybe it is a th400 and he doesnt know wats in it... he knows its numbers matching, but thinks its a th350 auto trans... iono ill look at it and figure it out if i can get it lol
