Default A/T cable adjustment

so is it possible to adjust the shifter cable on an A/T if it’s stretched ? Here is the scenario, went for a cruise and when I came home and put it in park , it rolled back and made some clinking noises as if it were between gears (P-R) and when I turn the car off I was not able to turn the key to the off position or pull the key out.. so I jumped on the forum and read that if I was able to turn the bottom of the steering column counter clockwise and put it in park like that then it is a stretched shifter cable..

so I read that they are adjustable with a linkage , is that still possible if it’s stretched or does it need to be replaced ?

This picture from 69 Service Manual may help.
Loosen two bolts and adjust accordingly, then adjust lockout rod to lock ignition.

ok so I’ve been lucky enough to never have to do this so I’m quite lost.. so the adjustment would take place at the shifter itself and not at the transmission? The bolts you speak of are the bolts (A&B) in the diagram ? And that lock out rod is on the fire wall next to the brake booster correct ? Sorry for your troubles
