Default automatic shifter not clicking into park correctly???? need help...

Im new to this fourms and im not to sure how everything works yet, but im going to give this a shot. I purchased an automatic 2002 camaro z28 and im having trouble figuring out whats wrong with the shifter. Everytime i shift down into the gears starting with park down to 1st the gears seem to click in properly, but when i shift upwards if feels like they are not securly in the proper gear. I hear there is cable that runs from the shifter to the transmission, could this possibly be streached out? Please Email me if anybody out there has had this problem and can help me out, it would be much appreciated. Thanks 20_jeff_02.

There is a cable and yes they can stretch but it could also be an easy fix. Pull your consul apart and see if there are any wires crossing in front of it as that can keep it from clicking some times. Also if you have a bunch of crap (dirt, dust, sand, etc) down in there that can sometimes keep it from moving smooth. If this is the case just clean it up real good and maybe add some light synthetic grease to the roller.
