Need some help! Bought a rear end today and received a very nice deal. The rear end is coming out of a 1968 camaro and I plan to put it under my 1967 camaro. I want I make sure it is ​​​​​​for a 1st generation camaro and not out of a 1970 camaro which would be a little wider. I actually think it may be a 1970-1072 Nova rear end which I believe would be right for a 1st gen Camaro. Can anyone help me ID this rear end. Code pictures attached and thanks in advance!,

 

measure it and the old one and compare. maybe post picture of the whole thing as well. I'm not up on first gens but am sure one of the guys can help out.

 

Look at spring perches, '67's came with a mono-leaf spring (single 3/4(?) inch depth) and LOW HP '68's came with mono-spring perches (short in height) verses multi-spring perch (thicker height 1-1/4 inch depth(?) and '70's and later are two inches wider track and spring perches are one inch wider between the two perches on axle tubes.

Rear axle will fit, but replace the rubber bushings with steel/alum plate and when bolt together, the spring pad to perch, the mono-springs will have twist due to the wider spring perch distance.

 

The casting number makes it a 12 bolt from a 1970 Nova (maybe). 0618G1 means June 18, G=Detroit gear and axle plant, 1=1st shift. The 0 before these numbers means 1970 model year. The E=Eaton posi unit. The maybe is because the 69 Camaro was produced 4 extra months, the build ran into November instead of July. 69 Camaros were being built at the same time 1970 Novas were. So, late production 69 Camaro's also got this same casting number rearend that the Nova did. Rearends from 1st gen Camaros and 68-72 Novas are interchangeable, same width and spring perch placement.
