Lowering the front end
I'm going to buy some lowering springsto drop the front end of my 67 acouple inches. My question is, can I just pull out the shocks and use some spring compressors to compress the spring and pull it out, or do I have to separate the ball joints and pull it out that way? Maybe I'm thinking into this too much. Any suggestions?? Thanks...
Not that easy bud. You better be very careful cause if that spring comes flying out it'll kill you.
Get help from someone who has done this before. Put your car on jack stands high enough so the lower control arm can swing down. Keep your jack under the lower control arm your working on to keep pressure. I believe I popped just the lower. As safety I stuck a pry bar thru the coil from the top to the bottom. Lower the jack slowly.

I actually bought the car wrecked in the front end, so I had to put a new sub frame on it and the shop that did it for me put some stock springs in the front, when the rear was already dropped a little bit, so now it looks stupid. I rented some compressors from Hertz Rental Center before that basically look like big C clamps that I figured I could put on both side of the spring and pull it out, but it sounds like it will probably be safest to drop the lover control arm likeyou guyssaid.
just be very careful in doing it. be sure that the gm ball joints are properly tightened and installed, to avoid problems.
I never use a spring compressor(some of them are hard to fit). I just put my jack under the lower control arm and lower slowly.
they won't teach you that in school though
