Default Functional Air Hood for a 3.8, V-6..

I saw Ecklers Camaro sells a SSfunctional ram air hood for the 1998-2002 3.8L Camaros...

How do you actually make it functional ? Do I need to get a certain cold air intake kit to attach to it to make it functional ?

I think when they say "Functional" they just mean it has an actual hole to allow air flow into the engine bay.
I might be wrong, so don't quote me =)

i think it will come wiht a filter that sits where the air is sucked into.

Negative!! I have yet to see a aftermarket hood that comes with the air filter kit. I'm sure someone does make them but I haven't seen any. What they mean by funtional hood is it will work but you have to cut the hole out yourself and it will funtion like a stock SS hood but you may have to get the filter kit seperately and I looked into them and they run about $300. Not worth it plus there are no real hp gains. You better off getting a K&N set up.

I just put a ram air hood on myz28 not even a week agoits not the ss hood but i did notice a BIG difference on the highway, reaction time was greater and you can really feel the puch even more.. my hood also came with it already cut out(i dont know if it makes a difference but mine is fiber glass)and you will have to get a whole new air box kit which LT1RUNNER is right right on at $300

I ordered mine through Summit Racing and it cost $550 if I remember correct. I went with the SS hood and the inlet has to be cut out. I decided to leave it as is and go with a CAI instead. It works just as well and was cheaper.

ok 98-02 ss hoods have a vent hole that dumps out right infront of where the factory airbox hols are. it gives you no gain, it is not true "ram air", and a CAI is way better. as far as looks go for it.
