Suburbans are probably closer to like 5 or 6 tons. I had an '89 lwb Silverado with a 350tbi in it, it could move pretty well for a stock 17 year old (at the time, it got stolen August of '06) truck, lots of torque.
Ten to twelve thousand pounds? I highly doubt it. Perhaps you meant 3 to 4 tons. That would make more sense.
my '97 Suburban (affectionately named Sherman, after the tank) was 6,340 lbs dry without anyone in it. they're beasts, but they can still get up and go

6340 lbs = 3.17 tons

I know they are heavy, but not what the guy posted.

Yes they are supposed to weigh about 3/4 tons. Since there actually are versions specifying that. But they are sure heavy. Lets face it, the small block Chevy motor rules the road.

Dude, the 3/4 ton is the rating on the rear axle for towing and carrying heavy loads.

maier is kindaright. the 1/2 ton, 3/4, and 1 ton WAS the rating. Now the names are used just to comply with convention, because those trucks are capable of handling alot more now. The old names havent truely applied in forever, but still, the 150 and 1500 series trucks are half ton by convention, and 250/2500 and 350/3500 are 3/4 and 1 respectively

Thanks for the elaboration. You hear someone say a 1 ton pickup, it's going to weigh a little more than 2000lbs... heh Heck, my flyweight neon weighs more than that.
