Default Boost on a 6.0 iron block

Hi Guys
I am new to the forum and new to LS1's Done a ton of small and big blocks but now I have a takeout 02 6.0 and I want to boost it. When do I need to replace the caps with billet? I have a 4 inch stroker kit for it and am going to use the ARP stud kit but I don't know about the caps. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
Bob

I was told it is a take out of a GMC 3500 truck 345 HP as is. I want to make a 408 out of it and am wondering about the main caps. I understand they are powdered metal. Just at what level do I need to go to billet caps? I am an old Chevy guy new to the LSX but learning fast.
Thanks
Bob

LSX is an aftermarket block. non-sleeved so-to-speak. i dont know what that means.... cept that u can bore big..........
the lsx block will take big strokes and bores.i know several 427 lsx smallblocks. if you go LS1 however, i wouldnt go past 383. maybe someone here knows better and can say its ok. but with what i know now i wouldnt. I also read that the ls1 and ls6 blocks may be different. never heard this before. dunno what they would have done.... made it more aluminium? dunno......a 408 is probably doable as a stroker.

i thought ls6 and ls1 blocks were the same, and the engines were mostly the same components.

pretty sure non-sleeved means.. well.. a sleeved engine means it's been de-bored basicly(uses sleeves to make it smaller). you take the sleeves out and put right size piston head in and ladidatida and it could be a 6.0 or w/e the displacement of engine is non-sleeved.

thats what they did with the redlines/SS. they took the standard 2.2 ecotec, sleeved it down to a 2.1, and destroked it to a 2.0, so it could rev higher and handle more HP and air, without the cam/valve float the 2.2 had.

We have the same block ('02 takeout iron truck block, stroked and 35 over to 408-409 cubes) in the Camaro, and we installed billet caps with ARP studs, etc. It's pure LS6-- initially we putall the accesories and heads, etc., from themy 'vette's stockmotor, before we later switched over to AFR heads and so forth. Billet caps seems rather small expense to rid yourself of a worrisome potential weakness. With stock LS6 heads and a mild cam it did about 425 RWHP, and no doubt the stock caps would have done just fine. But now its at about twice that, and so far, the thing is just about bulletproof

Hi Lee
Thanks for the input. I don't know how far this build is going to go Might stop around 600 and leave it a street driver. I have a street level blower coming but if this works out right then I might want to put a bigger blower on it and then go for it. So it is better to be safe. Whos caps did you use and where they any big deal to use.
Thanks
Bob
