I have heard that their is not much difference in weight in an alunimum block and iron block if all things are equal. Is this really true or is this just another mith?

The aluminum block is substantially lighter, but if you have never dealt with an aluminum block engine I don't suggest it. They are prohibitively expensive as a base for a hipo motor. generally they are reserved for expensive road race class cars.

100 LBS. give or take. A Iron block weigh about 160+ Lbs. and An Aluminum block weighs about 70 Lbs.

Lifting both up I them up 100lbs is pretty darn close. If you are compairing performance of aluminum vrs. iron the iron block will gererally make more power all things considered equal. The weight savings is the big advantage.

Griff is right! unless you just absolutely have to have the lighter block (and subsequent lighter wallet), then stay away from the aluminum block. Movement in the block at high rpms is just one issue. Prepping the thing to take abuse is an expensive proposition unto itself.

While I woudl love to have one (toy), and woudl love to have the money to build one "just right". it is simply not worth it when I can build more power for less money in an iron block, and make the same car make up the difference that the 70+ pounds is going to save me.
