Default 94 Camaro Engine Rebuild

I am rebuilding my son's 94 3.4 engine. I would like to replace the OBD1 computers system. Can an OBD2 be used? AND NEXT. Can we update the exhaust headers with appropriate updates? Thanks for sharing your experiences.

oh boy,,, no... and does it have headers or stock exhaust manifolds? like the 93 and 95 the 94 is a one year ecm. the wiring and sensors are also unique to that year. if your not attached to the car i would recomend thinking about looking for a good deal on a 96 up with 3.8. if your in the right place (can get good deals in certain areas of country) cost to rebuild is going to be close to cost of another camaro.

Thanks for the reply. Dont sugar coat anything😉 . But at least I know what we have now. Buy another used Camaro and have to restore it anyway. The best aspect of the one we have is the time well spent with my Son teaching him.

Also keep in mind GM never built a OBD2 system for a RWD 3.4. So you would have the choice of converting a FWD engine OBD2 harness then tuning it for the difference intake system or somehow changing the firing order and complete tune from a 3800 to a 3.4. That assume sensor with the same input can be found.

Rebuilding a 3.4 back to factory specs will cost you more the a good running 3800 car. The benefits of the 3800 is better MPG and about a 20% gain in HP. Even if you bought a 3800 car with blown engine you would be ahead because GM built the 3800 until 2009 and you can find a used long blocks for under $500 with less then 50k miles on them. IMO you will spend less money and have a better car.
