Default Buy new engine or rebuild mines? 1996 camaro z28

Well today I received some news that I did not want to hear, not to mention my 4 day old new exhaust system (Long tubes,ORY,Magnaflow catback). I never have felt this bummed out. My mechanic said my engine is done, eventually it will blow. He stated that a piece under the crankshaft is messed up and causing a loud knock when idling and only gets louder and faster as I accelerate. This was my daily driver from school and back. Now my question is how do I go from here now that the engine is going to be out and car will just be a shell? Any help? I'm looking towards making this car come back but with more *****. I'm aiming for 370+ hp and some really good torque numbers. Any one mind guiding me through the correct path? (I know it will take while to get it back on its feet as I'm a college student, but I'm willing to master mind everything to make a beast weekend car and sometimes use it as a daily!)

UPDATE: So there is a website called carid.com that is offering me an OE replacment engine specifically for my camaro for $2300. Should I take this?

Car:6spd Z28 with 80k original miles. 2nd owner.

woh threw a rod at 80k miles. not right. cheaper to pick up a rebuilt short block (as opposed to rebuilding yours) and switch everything off your engine. if your doing the work it will be worth it. if not you will most likely be better off selling this one as is and picking up another. you have exhaust and headers so you will need to have the heads and intake done and go with hp cam and maybe some 1.6 roller rockers. have a look at here to see what i did to mine. https://camaroforums.com/forum/93-02...-crabys-42437/

Yea man I'm bummed out. The 1st owner abused it ALOT more than I did, he did burnouts and donuts a lot and also raced it. I raced it a few times but not much as it was my daily. I had it for 3 years. Do you know of a website or spot where I can buy a rebuilt one? I was looking into a Lloyd Elliot package of heads and cam (LE2) , but not sure if that would be good for driving around the city from time to time. Up to how much power can stock heads take?

ls1 will not fit. ask around your area and search the net to see what shops put out reliable work that are close. shipping can get outa hand if your shipping across the country. there are lots of places that just clean em up check clearances and send it out as reconditioned. bought a engine for the netter from a place in eastern washington and came out ok.

If you have to pay someone to do the work you REALLY want to do the math. I bought a 2000 Z28 with 45,000 miles on it for $5500. It needed tires because they were dry rotted and it going to need and exhaust. With the price of LS1s dropping I am sure you could fine a cherry garage kept baby Lt1 for under 5K. This is the time of year to buy. End of summer early winter Camaro price always fall.

Do you think eBay actually sells what they promise in an engine? And would a longblock actually fit flush in my car? I'm actually on a budget to tell you the truth, I'm I'm college still and won't start making good incoming until the next 2-3 years (hopefully).

Man I wish I could find a good ls1 here in los Angeles for 5500! Most of the ones being sold here are being abused by the dozen. It's really hard finding something good out here. That's why I just want to fix mines. I'm still debating, buy a new OE replacement crate for 2600 and 3yrs warranty or rebuilding my 80k OG miles engine. This is really hard as I'm on a budget but need a reliable and strong motor to give me some pulls from time to time. If you were to take a guess on someone installing a new crate, how much would that be?

ok i am confused ls1 lt1 depends mabey 1500.00 2000.00 for a guy on the outserkts of la,these guys do have a point about .the fall an prices going way down ,if you got to keep the car .,theres a bit more involved in puting all your old stuff on reman .early spring is when i got mine too,as some forget to put the price up ,oh your in la sorry .you will have to search outisde evrything cost alot there ,i would go with 383 .on ebay ,then in the spring have someone install it ,so there prices are not going to change for 5500.you should be able to get the 383 an 1951herb call him 281 546 6232 an the other one with 3 years waranty stock both long blocks ,.1800 .422 6022 ,stock one is 2249 .383 2500.00 make offer call find there page on .i. jusst typed in lt1 stroker ,like said 100% . feedback goes far on ebay ,you may get either for 5500.00 so it a matter of ,most warrantys dont add up to much ,you just break in the engine easy then hard not to hard though, the one guy is in texas where things cost less ,there both made for .92 to 97 camaro firbird transam impala these are vin p engines same as my 95 had ,yes they should drop right in ,i am just confused where craby said not ls1 ,then you said ls1 ,
