To the OP. Understandable why you went with iron heads. 90k miles isn't bad, assuming the engine was well taken care of. Personally, I'd put away for a rebuild and hold off on the cam and work on basic bolt on's and aluminum heads. But that's me.
Shorty headers don't show great gains on the dyno. Longtubes are pretty much the "dyno queen" showing the best improvements over stock, when in reality there are spots where shorty headers will pick up more power (on the low end generally)

That'd explain it. I think Hot Rod used LT for their test.
