Z28 rwhp lt1

On my 96z28 a4,I have a lt1 engine with the cast iron heads.. A CAI, and a bbk 52 throttle body. I know the engine I have in it is rated 260/335. Just curious what my rwhp will be around. Thanks!

greenmachine96 04-30-2012 03:31 PM

240ish at best

Jelz28 04-30-2012 04:34 PM

Ok thanks!

230 rwhp is about what a stock dyno shows. that would be on a mustang dyno which is known to show low numbers. stock lt1 has dyno'd as high as 285 rwhp. that would be like the 96 ss, just shows they dont all seem to fall in certain numbers.

I have to disagree with greenmachine.. a stock lt1 has over 240..

But to answer your question, the only way to know is dyno it.

Remember though, he has iron heads, not aluminum. Less flowing and heavier.

Hot Rod did a test a few years back on '96 Z28 to see how it responded to old school mods. It had the six speed though, but still produced 265 rwhp @ 5000 rpm and 308 rwtq @ 3250 rpm. A stock '96 from a F-body was rated 285 at the flywheel.

I'd say since you have iron heads and a A4, you're probably close to 225-230. But mileage, condition of the engine, oil, trans fluid condition and diff fluid condition could all have an effect on HP, but it'd be marginal at best. But like Mike said, dyno it and find out.

230 sounds right for an iron auto.

Ok thanks so much for the help guys! Besides swapping to the aluminum heads, should I get a cam for the engine?

MKCoconuts 05-01-2012 11:05 AM

How many miles on the engine? If it's above 100k, you're probably better of having the block cleaned up and redone.

Huh. Learn something new every day I guess.
Not to thread jack, but how do you determine which heads you have?
