Washed the car, now missing bad
I pulled my car in a carwash to rinse it off and wasn't thinking anything about it but a couple minutes after i left the car started missing pretty bad. I just put a new opti on it 2 or 3 weeks ago so i was baffled. Well, after looking under the hood today I noticed that the air inlet is right behind the headlights so I'm thinking i may have sprayed water into it and the air pump pumped water straight into my opti. I have a 96 engine so its vented with a t about a foot off the pump and a vacuum line going to the TB. Does anyone think it will work the water out quick enough? Could that be my problem? I don't have the SES light on. Oh yeah, it misses worse when it starts to warm up, not as bad when its all cold.
That really sucks, and it does sound like the opti may have gotten wet. I did the same thing the first time I washed my engine and my car ran bad. I was able to dry out the opti but I had to remove it to do so. I know that isn't what you want to hear but the good news is that it may be fine like mine was after it dried out. If the stupid opti's weren't so sensitive I would say shoot some wd40 in the cap but the stupid opti's wouldn't like that either. Good luck
good call. dry it out as soon as u can. it does not take long for rust to set in. seal it with some high temp rtv on the o ring. hows the wires? when it heats up the moisture turns to vapor and gets in everything. when cool it hangs out at the bottom.
Thanks craby, just wanted another opinion. Gonna go take it out right now i guess. It actually ran a little better on the way home from work but i don't wanna take any chances. I put some rtv on it when i put it in so that should be fun to get back off. I figured the vapor was causing it. So I learned a big lesson...Don't blast water at the driver side headlight!!!!
Oh yeah, wires need changed pretty soon but can't afford it yet. Checked plugs sunday and they're all good. Even the #8, reached my hand between the manifold and the fenderwell and took the thing right out. Took about 5 minutes. Don't know why people make such a deal out of it lol

Update, I got the opti out and it had something rattling inside. I got it apart and this is what i found. I took it back and swapped it for a new cap. Hard to believe it was still running!!
Oh yeah, surprisingly it was dry as a bone inside
