hi new on here. i have a 97 camaro z28 lt1 and we are having problems. we were driving and the car started bogging out and woukdnt run anymore. after towing it home the car will start when it wants to and idle after several times of restarting it. it losses power and just dies. this is my first camaro and i dont want to spend tons of money on it, because we just had the headgasket done and that was way to much. so if anyone can help or has any suggestions of what i can do at home please let me know. thanks.

 

when was the fuel filter changed last? how many miles on the car? has the fuel pump ever been changed? check fuel pressure. dont really have to start it to do that. check for stored trouble codes. has the ses light came on? how bout the security light?

 

the fuel filter is brand new. we have owned the car for 2 years and dont know anything about the fuel pump ever being changed. the security light isnt on, and the ses light is always on because the egr valve is reading bad, but it works, so the light is always on. the car has 64,000 original miles on it. how do you check the fuel pressure without the car being started? do you have to have a scanner to check for stored trouble codes? thanks in advance for any info, we are desperate. lol

 

with a 97 u do need a scanner. u can check the fuel pressure with pressure test gage and turning the key on. u should hear it when u first turn the key on for a couple seconds and should stop. if u are not hearing it then its not working for one reason or another.

 

we listened to it and when the key is turned on it makes a sound and then shuts off. so now we are going to try to get a scanner. thank you for your help

 

we did a fuel pressure test today and its at 30psi when it should be between 55 and 60 so our fuel pump is bad. thanks again
