Default power loss

I realize that there is another thread here with "jackjonson" camaro needs to be restarted in order for the power to return. I didn't want to ***** up his thread. I have a similar problem with power loss only my car has it all the time. One day I noticed a change in the way the engine sound but I didn't think anything of it until a few days ago. I too cannot burn rubber from a dead stop and my car has been using up a lot of fuel and the gas fumes are very strong. The engine is a 94 LT1 with only 20k on a rebuild. Opti is new as well as the wires and coil (MSD). There is no check engine light on and the cat is new. Any help would be great! Thanks.

Assuming that the engine is running rich, then check the fuel pressure & pressure regulator. If they are OK, take a good look at the O2 sensors with a scanner & see what they are doing, if anything. The rich running may have fouled your plugs so you should take a look at them & replace them if necessary. Also, if you have a scanner take a look atthe output of all other sensors & see if they are reasonable. Also check the knock sensor output and the amount of spark retard, if any.

I forgot to mention that I did replace 02 sensors when I did the rebuild. I don't have a scanner so to the nearest shop I go. How do I check the presure regulator? Never did that.

There is a sticky in the Lt1 section on how to test the regulator. You will need a cheap FI pressure gage, around $25.

That would cause that much power loss?
