Don't waste your time or money. For some reason, some car guys seem to think that 190-200 degrees is a bad temperature? A lower stat doesn't help the cooling system if the radiator fans don't come on any sooner, and it could actually make it so the radiator never gets a chance to chill the coolant like it's designed to. Even if the fans did come on sooner, 160 is way too cold for the engine to run efficiently and properly. Keep the stock stat in place and make it so the fans switch on sooner if your car seems to be reaching meltdown temps. There's absolutely nothing wrong with an operating temp in the 190 degree range if you can make it hang there with the fans.

I have a Hypertech 160 thermostat that I no longer use and I agree with Camaro 69 on this. In addition, the 160 deg thermostat did not make my car run cooler. It just made the engine take a little linger to get to operating temperature, especially in cold weather. When I had an overheating problem, all it did was take a little longer to overheat. This probably won't help my cause for trying to sell it in the near future.

$40 to $50 for a stat? It better be gold plated. I guess there is always a sucker. lol
A cold engine does not make more power, what makes a difference is cold air going into the engine. The hotter an engine can safely run, the more efficient it becomes, because less energy (heat) gets wasted. If it were so easy to make more power, factories would be using cold thermostats instead of expensive intercoolers when using forced induction. The last time factories used 160 degree stats was way back when antifreeze was still made with alcohol, and would boil off at higher temps.

Get the slp fan switch! Keep the thermostat and just get the switch it is the best thing you can get for the car. When it gets hot just hit the switch. It's the next best thing from sliced bread

if i got that switch, i would forget to ever turn the thing on. my car came with the 160 degree stat and it does take forever for it to run good and get the heat going in the winter time.
