No Thermostat?
well my radiator was messing up.. and my car kept over heating.. so i felt the 2 hoses.. 1 was warm.. had water.. the other did.. so i let it cool and i ended up taking the thermostat out and it was shut close.. but of course it was cold.. so i put it in the water and boiled it.. and it never pop.. so my thermostat was stuck close? broken? Since i didnt have the money to get a new one " yes im that broke for a couple days paid all my bills " One of the hoses was dry as can be too.. so i left the thermostat out and put it back together.. and i dont think not having a thermostat is bad? now there is no overflow out the coolent dipstick area and runs great .. runs about 170 degrees.. is this good or bad? do i actually need it?

RE: No Thermostat?
the purpose of the thermostat is to let coolant circulate to the waer pump and engine.170 is too cool, you will not get as good gas mileage as the engine isnt at the right operating temperature and you car will run too rich.the happy zone for an engine is 195-210 degrees

RE: No Thermostat?
Also, keep in mind that there is better chance for the engine to overheat on hot summer days if there is no t'stat. One of the purposes of the t'stat is to slow down the flow of water so that it has time to release the heat through the radiator.
