Default Shift light

Ok so I have been wondering about putting a shift light in my car for a while now. I was curious if anyone has ever wired one in without doing an aftermarket gauge with one built in. The main thing I need to know is what wire i would be hooking up to that would feed the gauge. Not sure if anyone knew. I was looking at getting something similar to this one from summit

what yr car. the obd2 cars dont have a tach filter so u should be able to hook into the tach wire with them. the obd1 cars have a filter so i think u would have to hook into it before the filter.
