Default Shift Light

Now that theinstrument clusterhas been removed, cleaned, repaired, and re-installed, I have a shift light in the tach area that stays on at freeway speeds.

In city driving it will go on and off as the car shifts, as I would expect.

Why it's there I'm not sure...it's an auto trans!

The previous owner didn't even know it was there.

I know, the low tech solution is to take out the lamp (problem solved!), but that's not my style. I want it to work correctly.

Any ideas?

Loose electrical connection after your reinstall of the cluster, my opinion.

Hmmm...I also have a 91 RS 305 Auto, and mine doesn't have a shift light. Kinda seems worthless and unnecessary to me, even though these 305 engines are real monsters!!!. I don't know how it could be a connection issue with the cluster that would cause it to work at certain speeds and not at others. Besides, you know how the harness plugs into the stamped PC board/sheet recepticle in back,it's not like you could have loose wire connections dangling. What was repaired on your cluster? Maybe there's a sensor that's gone haywire? I would opt for the "disable the light" method if you can't figure it out.

Just had a post-posting afterthought. Any chance your cluster came out of a manual trans car and put in yours?
