Rear End Noise/Sqeak & Whine
I have a 1996 Z28 with auto trans. Bought the car new in '96. At about 15K the rear end (?suspension?)began to make whining, sqeaking sound at low speed while vehicle is turning.(EX. When backing out of the garage, pulling into a parking space, etc.) Ibrought this to the attention of the dealer and they said itneeded "special" synthetic gear lube...so they changed the rear end lube, charged me $90and gave it back to me. Of course,,,Not Fixed...I just don't like taking my car to dealers for repairs...seems that they rip me off by charging me for repairs that don't work and then expect me to bring it backwhile they "try again" at my wallet's expense. I feel like I'm financing some mechanics way through training school. Anyways, since I only drive this car in the summer, I decided totolerate the squeaking/whining when I maneuver in and out of thegarage.I now have slightly over 100k on the car(it still runs like a champ other than this noise...) and I'm still seeking a definitive answer to this problem. I've read some of the other posts on this site but each seems to be slightly different than this problem. Can someone help me out?

RE: Rear End Noise/Sqeak & Whine
well the rear end fluid does need an additive to it, do you know if that was added ? i rebuilt my rear end at 130-140k cant remember exactly, with the car on, go down the drive line, is there a humming sound ?
ive never heard a rear end squeak, ive heard wheel bearing squeek when they were going out, can you pin-point exactly where the sound is coming from ?
