Default Rear end Gear Change

I have a friend who's selling his 3rd gen Camaro and has an extra set of 3.42 gears that came off of a 4th gen. He was going to install them, but now that he's selling the car, he doesn't need them anymore. I'm thinking of getting them(they're only like $60), but I'm wondering how much my fuel economy is going to drop. It probly won't change that much around town, but on the highway I could take a hit. Any on what an A4 with 3.42's would get?

Second question now, how difficult is it to set up the gears. I know my way around my engine bay pretty well, but I really haven't dealt with the drivetrain too much.
