Is it possible/worth it to convert a automatic 96 z28 to a manual?
Not worth it, your first gear in the auto is more aggressive than the first in the manual anyway, and especially if you drop in some more aggressive gears in the rear end, you'll be a manual killing machine on the strip. Just leave it how it is.
I really don't think it worth the trouble, unless you really want to stir your own gears. But if you really want to do it, the May 2007 issue of GM High-Tech Performance has a big write up on how to go about it.

You can do anything if you spend enough money, talent, and time.
Why would you want to? If you want to convert an auto to manual, sell or trade the car on one with the transmission you want. It will be much cheaper.
