Default Oil pressure problems

I could really use some help. I own a 1994 Z28 with the LT1 motor. My oil pressure gauge fluctuates. While driving it reads between 40 & 45 psi and when idling it reads just under 20 psi. I just got it back from the dealership where they replaced some bad sensors and my water pump. In reference to the oil pressure the machanic said the car's oil pressure was "functioning normally" Is this much fluctuation really normal? Should I have someone else look at it? Also I live in Fayetteville, NC so if any of you are from my areaI'd appreciate some guidance on finding a quality, reputable mechanic in my area. I'm a 1st time camaro owner and this is my 1st GM product in about 12 years. Thanks for the help in advance!

That sounds about right, as long as it doesnt get too low. Otherwise that is good pressue and yes it should fluctuate with rpms.

Oil pressure increases with RPM until the relief valve opens to limit the pressure so as not to damage things.

hey i was worried about the same pblm and my chevy guy told me that it was normal also, but i still didnt feel safe. im not sure what kind of oil you are running if you are running cheep bulk oil from a jiffy lub then it will brake down a lot faster then a high quality oil... personaly i have always been a mobil guy so i run mobil 1synthetic, it doesnt brake down as fast as regular bulk oil, i just changed myoil yersterday and i decided torun a wix raceingoil filterit doesnt filter as good or as long but i drive my car very hard and i change my oil every 1000 miles regardless.... if you dont change your own oil and the place u have your oil changed doest have a highquality oil. then on your way to have it changedjust stop by a parts store (advanced auto parts,O'Rielly's) about ne where will have a highquility oil selection,
Another idea that i had was to drop the engine tep. so the oil doesnt get so thin,,, maybe change out the thermastate to a 160 andreset the electric fan on and off temps. the "How to" site on the top of the form will help u to change your own thermastate hope i could help,,, this made my oil pressure rise

Also, different brands of oil filters will affect the oil pressure because they have more or less restrictive filter media, and different bypass settings.
