no start, code 42
93 camaro z, auto. car usually works fine cept for today. took it for a drive, stopped for an hour, came back out to drive home and it just cranks over n over. unhooked batt, hooked back up..code 42. checked spark, none at the plug.
im a couple hours away from home I'm gonna be checking back in with this thread. any ideas is appreciated alot.
keep in mind this car has worked great, and im leaning towards a burnt wire or something but checked and cant find one.
I did recently get a tune (email, chip, burner etc) but i really dont think that is the issue. Since it wont start i put the old chip back in. yes i carry it around with me. still no start.
k , time to start seachin the forums again then im thinking a tow. crappy.
thx again.

Code 42 is Ignition Control Circuit; "Check the wiring and connectors between the ignition module and the ECM. Replace ICM or ECM." Defiantly check the wiring first. If you can get a voltmeter, check the white wire to the ICM and see if it reads 1-4 volts. Could try replacing the ICM if you don't mind spending the cash. Could try unplugging it and the battery for a few and seeing if that does anything. Is that the only code you got?

here is info on dtc 42 vvv and on a no start lt1. https://camaroforums.com/forum/lt1-l...37/#post579761 i would suspect the ignition control/coil module.

thx for the quick response crab. got volt meter, checkin stuff. that ground wire from the pcm to oil pan (2wires) look a lil bad/burnt . can i ground them anywheres? like to the ground post by pass fender?

if your talking about the grounds to the block by the starter then for the short term ground anywhere but get it back on the block right away. that is the ignition ground.

haha a lot of people asked about the gas, but i had just filled it. checked all the wiring as per crab and shoebox. everything pointed towards icm. a buddy of mine i knew had a friend locally where i was at, with a barn and an ol caprice lt1 in there. 4hrs later he shows up with an icm with a coil attached and an intake. not sure why the intake but anyways, throw the icm on and she starts right up. wouldnt take a cent from me and i tried really hard. today i entered a drag race and round 3 had to run my buddy who knew the guy with the lt1. he joked about wanting the part back. i beat him then continued on and won the event. pretty crazy weekend. thx crab.
Point of this lil story is the ICM can go bad instantly without any warning/symptoms.
