Talking New engine

Hey, I have a 96 Z28 and the miles are getting a little high. I want to put a completely new engine in it. Not just a new block, everything. The thing is I only know a little about cars. Can anyone give me some advice? Should I piece together my own LT1 with everything seperate? Or are there any shops that sell turn-key LT1 engines with everything? Thanx in advance for the advice

yes u can. google it u should find a bunch of places. your in calf should be a few some where fairly close u could give a call and see what kind of deals they have. on the other hand theres a first time for everything. get a dealer sevice manual for your yr and model and do some reading. that will tell u what is involved and give u an idea if u think u could do it. there are some fairly extensive site writeups on the net too. need tools, jack stands, cherry picker and a way to lift the car off the motor bay to alow removal.

Thanx for the advice. I know I couldn't do the whole engine myself but I can do the little things. I was thinking about replacing everything around the engine myself and buying a long block lt1 from golen or somewhere and having that professionally installed. I'll look up those guys that you told me about but one closer would be nice.

if u want something beefier, try looking into boring and stroking your engine to a 383. thats what a lot of lt1 guys do with their high mileage motors. google it.

I was thinking to just give the guy the core deposit and bore mine out. build it from top to bottom, then look for another car to put it in. maybe a pontiac or something.

i would say that you should find a block from somebody for lik $200 go to a local reputable machine shop. tell them i want a 383. have them bore and do all the machine work they will even get all the internals. have them build the shortblock. the rest is on you its not that hard from there on. if you want you could get the cam and timing assembly and have them install and degree that. but to bolt heads on and the other stuff itd be fun learning and its not too hard.
