I think you're missing his point about checking the heads. Since your car has been overheating, i would check them to make sure they haven't warped from the recent overheating.
Its better to be safe than blow the engine apart because some antifreeze was leaking into the block.

The freon goes low it will freeze up if it's overcharged ac heats up a leak could be the smoke from vents till freon too low shutdown compressor which caused the fans not to operate with ac. My 95z the fans suppose to come on at around 210 without ac on but they don't think it's computer so I just run ac or defrost dosent get hot at all. I don't really like 210 anyway. U could just fix ac for now till u fix fans. I plan on contacting pcmforless changing my fan to 160 bying there tuning software. Goodluck overheating makes anyone crazy.
