If everything is properly balanced, the stock crank should be reliable for up to arounf 500HP
There are two types of forged cranks depending on how they were made. The usual forged crank uses the twist method where the throws are all forged in a line and then twisted in the proper position. The other method (no twist) the throws are forged in the reqired position. The no twist crank, assuming the same quality steel is used, should be somewhat stronger. If you can stand the price get one made out of 4340 steel.
Be aware that unlike cast cranks, forged cranks are only surface hardned and should not be reground unless the shop has the equipment to reharden the journals. Do some research and get one from a well known manufacturer that stands behind its product.
